I was only a teenager for my 1st trip out of the country to the Philippines for the World Youth Day event. It was also the biggest crowd of 5 million people event for me and I was zany enough to be up there at 3 something in the morning to book the spot on the reporter stand and wasn’t asked to come down without the pass.

Want to try something different that is not the norm to Asian, go Europe backpacking that easily takes 3 months. There are special packages for youth < 26 to travel around Europe with Euro pass train, only youth hostels, student’s entry fees, etc. One interesting concept is at the youth hostel, you can exchange for the books and there are hostels got the facility like you can borrow the bicycle and cycle to other hostels in another part of town and leave them there. This also allows me the opportunity to meet people from different parts of the world. If I can remember, 1st Sunday of the month usually the museum is free to enter. One town known as “Taize” offers an interesting experience of silence up the mountain and the concept is those came from developing country pay more to subsidize for the developing country people..
The best way to experience the local culture is to live with the locals of the country. To date, I have lived with hosts who have been featured in TIMES magazine front page, university professor, student, young couple, single mother with kids, families, and a medical doctor couple who lost their child during wartime. Each of them offers me an interesting experience from different country and culture. Being a foodie person and don’t mind bizarre food, I have tasted “Balut” (Philippine) to Guinea Pig (Peru). I love the mountain, beaches - had a dip in all the oceans including the Arctic Ocean besides chasing sunrise and sunset whenever possible.
7 Wonders of the World
At 1st, I didn’t set out for the 7 wonders of the world journey. Only after the 5th wonder of the world, I decided to complete all of them. My 1st wonder of the world is “The Great Wall” (China) and 2nd is Coliseum (Italy). Somehow – my ailing year I completed 3 of them, the 3rd “Petra” (Jordan), 4th “Machu Picchu” (Peru), and 5th “Christ the Redeemer” (Brazil) all in the same year. Then, the 6th is “Chetan Itza” (Mexico) and the last one “Taj Mahal” India in the next few years.
Enjoy every moment whenever possible so live life to the fullness.
